Let’s recount the journey of Wilhelmus and Alberta, whose love story began with Alberta’s simple, sweet “yes” to Wilhelmus’s invitation to dance in 1955. They married on February 20, 1957, in their beloved homeland of Holland. Shortly after tying the knot, an exciting opportunity arose that felt like the right move. On June 21, 1957, they bravely decided to relocate to Ireland, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their love story.
In Ireland, Wilhelmus and Alberta found a place that truly felt like home, affirming their decision. Though they faced challenges and felt the pangs of being far from family, they pressed on with optimism for a bright future in Ireland, strengthened by their unwavering bond. They expanded their family, welcoming four children: William, Marjo, Corina, and Albert. Family was their cornerstone, and they devoted themselves to creating cherished memories that would endure for generations.
Hidden Acres is more than just a piece of land; it’s a legacy steeped in horticultural wisdom passed down through generations. In 1989 Albert Ruiter, diligently expanded his father’s agricultural knowledge, cultivating not only herbs and vegetables but also a deep-rooted love for the land and its possibilities. Over the years, the family grew alongside their botanical endeavours, nurturing a vibrant community eager to participate in the farm’s bounty. As Albert’s passion for horticulture blossomed, so did his curiosity for farm animals, transforming the landscape into a harmonious haven for donkeys, alpacas, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, and more.
Recognising an opportunity to innovate, Albert saw the potential for alternative accommodation in Ireland, envisioning a place where guests could immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of Hidden Acres. With dedication and foresight, he transformed the family’s ancestral grounds into a spectacular retreat, blending sustainable farming practices with luxurious amenities. Today, Hidden Acres stands as a testament to Albert’s vision—a haven where horticultural heritage meets modern hospitality, inviting visitors to experience the charm and serenity of rural Ireland like never before.
